3 Principles on How to Motivate Yourself to Success

Every success story begins with someone wanting to succeed. Whether that’s starting your own business, creating a new invention, or building your entrepreneurial empire, you must have the mentality that you want to do something extraordinary before you start. Understanding why you want to be or create an extraordinary and successful moment can be more challenging to realize than you’d think.

When picturing your success, what do you see? Do you consider your success the same as your dreams? I like to think of success like a snowflake. Everyone can achieve it differently, everyone has their own path to it, and each person will land in a different spot. On your journey down from the skies towards the snowy hill of success, imagine the things that might hold you back from a beautiful landing. Maybe there’s strong wind, or ice in your path.

There are bound to be roadblocks on your journey to success, but ask yourself, ‘What am I willing to do today to make my dreams come true?’

1) Urgency to Succeed

When we have urgency mixed in with our desire to accomplish a task, we are more likely to be successful because we want to do it quickly. For example, I am not a procrastinator because part of my image of success is having tasks done with ample amount of time in case something terrible happens. When I plan events, I will set aside materials, full social media strategies, and anything else I will need, two or three weeks in advance. However, your sense of urgency might be different.

Another great example is weight loss. Many want to lose weight to get fit around summer so that they can wear cute swimsuits. There is urgency in the timeframe, meaning the motivation to be successful is higher.

2) Be Crystal Clear

Discovering the real reason why you want to be successful and reach your goals can be harder than you think. Why did you pick that goal? What is the outcome when you reach it? If you want to make more income, what will that extra income help you do? Really think about the goals you are setting, and understand why you want to achieve it. If you truly understand the why, you are going to understand how best to boost your motivation.

To help you stay on track, having physical reminders is a great way to keep that goal at the top of your mind. One tool is to have a vision board as it is a great way to visualize your goals!

3- On a scale from 1-10, how important is it?

Elon Musk once said, “When something is important enough, you do it even when the odds are not in your favor.” I find this quote to be so fitting, because think of all the adversities you have overcome to be where you are.

I want you to really think about this, on a scale from 1-10, how important is your goal? If your answer is a five or below, why have you listed it as a goal? If it’s a six or above, do you enjoy reaching towards that goal? Enjoying the process and the journey will help keep you motivated because you actually enjoy the task. On the other hand, if you aren’t the best at keeping your finances straight, having enough income to hire an accountant may also motivate you to your goal.

When you tie all three of these principles together, your level of commitment to your goal is at its highest. It is all about understanding why you want to be successful, and find the challenges and opportunities that will help you reach your dreams.

Do not discount all the hard work and effort you have put into making your dreams and goals a reality. It’s easy to say rather than do, but try not to compare yourself to others.

Everyone has different measurements of success, and everyone has different goals. You are doing enough right where you are.
